An International Olympic Committee spokesman on Tuesday night refuted an earlier report that two goalies on the US women's hockey team had been asked to remove the Statue of Liberty from their helmets, saying "there seems to be a misunderstanding. We have not asked for the symbol to be removed." USA Today reported earlier Thursday that USA hockey was in discussions with the IOC about whether or not Nicole Hensley and Alex Rigsby would be allowed to keep Lady Liberty on their helmets. The IOC has a longstanding policy that does not allow wording or messaging related to national identity on any uniforms.
