UFC bantamweight Leslie Smith has launched a unionization effort titled Project Spearhead, along with UFC lightweight Kajan Johnson. Smith has been associated with other fighter rights movements, including the Professional Fighters Association. She has now branched out on her own, along with attorney Lucas Middlebrook, in an effort to unionize UFC athletes. Several other notable attempts at this have failed to gain traction in recent years. Another group, the MMAFA, is currently working on extending boxing's federal Ali Act to cover mixed martial arts.
