Without a quarterback currently under contract for 2018, new Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks said the team will be "very aggressive" whether it be in free agency, through a trade or in the draft to find a quarterback. So. what does a Steve Wilks quarterback look like? I asked him. "Very smart and intelligent guy. A guy that's going to come in and command, not only the huddle, but that side of the ball, that locker room. A competitor. A guy that loves to compete. We're looking for all those things. That DNA.”

Former Cardinals wide receivers coach Darryl Drake, who coached with new head coach Steve Wilks in Chicago earlier in their careers, vouched for Kevin Garver and urged Wilks to hire Garver as his successor. Wilks listened to Drake, interviewed Garver and eventually hired him as the team's wide receivers coach, a promotion from assistant wide receivers coach.
